Weight Management Support

Managing your weight can support your overall health and wellbeing. Summerhill Pharmacy offers practical advice, prescription dispensing and pharmacist support to help you use any prescribed treatment safely.

Summerhill Pharmacy does not prescribe weight-management medication. Prescribing decisions are made separately by your GP or an independent prescribing service following an individual clinical assessment.

Why Maintaining a Healthy Weight Matters

Maintaining a healthy weight can support your general health and may reduce your risk of developing conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. The most appropriate approach will depend on your health, circumstances and individual goals.

Set Realistic Goals

Set realistic and sustainable goals based on your individual circumstances. Your GP, pharmacist or another qualified healthcare professional can help you decide what is appropriate for you.

Food and Nutrition

A balanced and varied diet is an important part of weight management. Aim to include vegetables, fruit, sources of protein and high-fibre foods while limiting foods and drinks that are high in sugar, salt or saturated fat.

Eating Habits

Being aware of portion sizes, eating regularly and planning meals can help support sustainable changes. A dietitian can provide individual advice where appropriate.

Hydration

Drink enough fluid throughout the day and choose water where possible. Individual fluid requirements vary, particularly for people with certain medical conditions.

Physical Activity

Regular physical activity can support weight management and improve general health. Work gradually towards recommended activity levels and choose activities that are suitable for your health and mobility. Speak to a healthcare professional before beginning a new exercise programme if you have an existing medical condition or have concerns about exercising safely.

Sleep

Regular, good-quality sleep can support overall health and healthy routines. Most adults require approximately seven to nine hours of sleep, although individual needs vary.

Prescription Weight-Management Treatment

Prescription treatment may be appropriate for some people as part of a wider weight-management plan. A qualified prescriber must assess your medical history, current health, other medication and individual circumstances before deciding whether treatment is suitable.

Summerhill Pharmacy can dispense a valid prescription and provide advice about using, storing and disposing of your prescribed medicine safely. Supply remains subject to prescription validation, clinical review and product availability.

How do I find out if weight-management medication is suitable for me?

A qualified prescriber must assess your medical history, current health, other medication and individual circumstances before deciding whether prescription treatment is appropriate. You can speak with your own GP or use the independent online doctor service linked from this page. The prescribing decision is made solely by the prescriber following your assessment.

Do I need a prescription for Mounjaro, Ozempic or Wegovy?

Yes. Mounjaro, Ozempic and Wegovy are prescription medicines and can only be supplied against a valid prescription.

I already have a prescription. Can Summerhill Pharmacy dispense it?

Yes. Your prescriber should preferably send the prescription directly to Summerhill Pharmacy through Healthmail. Original hard-copy prescriptions may also be posted or brought into the pharmacy. Once received, the pharmacy team will validate the prescription, review the prescribed treatment and confirm availability.

The Prescription Order form may be used to request a repeat only where Summerhill Pharmacy already holds the original prescription, whether received through Healthmail or as a hard copy. Completing the form or uploading an image does not replace the original valid prescription.

Can my doctor send my prescription directly to Summerhill Pharmacy?

Yes. Prescribers in Ireland can send prescriptions directly to Summerhill Pharmacy through Healthmail at summerhill.dublin@healthmail.ie. This is our preferred method of receiving prescriptions.

Can my prescription be delivered?

Prescription medicines are currently available for collection from Summerhill Pharmacy. We are finalising our temperature-controlled delivery service and will update this page when it becomes available.

Can I ask the pharmacy team questions about my treatment?

Yes. Summerhill Pharmacy’s pharmacists can discuss your prescription, explain how to use your medication and answer questions about its safe storage and handling. Call (01) 817 8897 or email info@summerhillpharmacydublin.ie.

Can I request a sharps bin for needle disposal?

Yes, subject to availability. Ask the pharmacy team when discussing your prescription, and we will advise you about the safe disposal of used needles.

Do I need to keep Mounjaro, Ozempic or Wegovy in the fridge?

Storage requirements differ between medicines and pen types. Follow the instructions supplied with your specific medicine and the advice provided by your pharmacist. Do not use a medicine that has been frozen or stored outside its permitted temperature range. Contact the pharmacy if you are uncertain about how your medicine has been stored.

You may speak with your own GP or use an independent online prescribing service. Online consultations and prescribing decisions are provided separately by independent third-party healthcare professionals. You are free to choose Summerhill Pharmacy to dispense any valid prnescription issued following your assessment.

How Does an Online Doctor Service Work?

  • Step 01

Complete the independent provider’s online clinical questionnaire. Information about its security and privacy arrangements should be available directly from that provider.

  • Step 02

An independent Irish-based prescriber will review the information provided and decide whether treatment is clinically appropriate. Summerhill Pharmacy does not influence or guarantee that decision.

  • Step 03

If a prescription is issued and you choose Summerhill Pharmacy, the prescriber can send it directly to summerhill.dublin@healthmail.ie. The pharmacy will validate the prescription, confirm availability and contact you about collection.
